j.j Don't know if it's worth saying, but I'm finally getting back into PK. Having moved away from Dublin to Edinburgh for uni some years ago and doing just about feck all for a few years, I've now moved to Oxford and am getting to know the scene here! If anyone ever feels like hitting up Oxford for a wee jam or two feel free to give me a shout

Petes I've been trying to find other people to train with and attend jams so I can make some actual progress but I can never get information because it seems all the Dublin jams these days are organized on other sites!
Is there anyone I can get in touch with who'll give me details for jams?

Flaithbheartach @Marauding: Ha. There are so many "parkour/freerunning" vids like that... there is a trend actually. They all make me do facepalms.
I miss when vids where about movement, like this one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rxv8SS1XU_8 (and had music that at least says something that was thought trough, with an actual meaning)
and not about "being cool".

@Martin: PM means private message. BCB meant that you went to his profile and clicked on "Send Private Message".

martin3495 I live in a small town in dublin called skerries. Is there anyone near me who would be willing to train with me?

(3 years, 4 months ago)
Tricksy I am 100% new to both parkour and this site, I live in Galway is there any chance someone in Galway could help me train or even offer some tips please?

(3 years, 4 months ago)
T Nah. I wasn't talking about parkour at all, and I'm only talking about kipping pullups. Forget about the rest of the actually useful things in crossfit.
How does doing a kipping pullup help me in comparison to regular pullups, other than letting me get a better time in whatever WoD?

(3 years, 4 months ago)
Steven A lot of oly and power lifting, both I really enjoy!
Do you mean how does the movement help you with Parkour? Well, I suppose oly lifting is great for explosive power along with over all strength, pure endurance from the short but taxing workouts and flexibility. Well, I would think that's some nice attributes in contrast with Parkour

(3 years, 4 months ago)
T No worries. So what is its functionality then? What movements, other than getting my chin over a bar does it help with, or what movement involving chin over a bar from free hanging is something I would need to do, other than muscle ups?

Bah! I missed it all! _
Well... he won again then.
I'm glad Camille managed to get 1st. She's had a rough time in previous years.
I'll check out the archive footage this evening to see what the actual events were.

(3 years, 4 months ago)
Steven Sorry T only saw this now! I was a firm believer for quite a long time that the kipping pull-up was bollix but after getting into Crossfit now myself I can see its functionality.
Did you see the run? I'm sure Froning will find it hard this year with such a poor event.

(3 years, 4 months ago)
T All the things!
The idea is that, if you do crossfit, then you should be generally better at doing a range of things, compared to someone who doesn't do it.

(3 years, 4 months ago)
Flaithbheartach Fittest on what?
(I know, I know... but, linguistics.. my stuff.)

( Miss you all ! )

(3 years, 5 months ago)
T Rich Froning is awesome, but he does annoy me, with his religion talk and lucky headband.
Pretty sure that his god doesn't help people win crossfit tournaments. If it does, then that's one weird holy entity.
I'd rather the competition be closer than him just whooping everyone all the time.

Daza loves going on about how their pull ups are so stupid, and I agree with him now... in that, a kipping pull up is not a very functional movement at all. It helps with muscle ups, but I can't see anywhere else that the kip can be used for something practical.
They should have a rock wall, or an actual cliff face for them to climb. That is a practical challenge... or have legitimately tough obstacle courses, like ninja warrior. That would be much entertaining, along with being a more legitimate test, rather than all this super high endurance stuff.

(3 years, 5 months ago)
Steven Rich Froning is quite constant though! 3 times in a row. All though I did watch the swimming event from last year and Rich came 9th or so. Overall serious endurance though!

(3 years, 5 months ago)
T If I think of it, yup!
I've been thinking about how the whole thing is a bit lame recently though. "Fittest person on Earth" after all is a pretty broad term. They added in swimming challenges and obstacle courses on top of the regular Olympic lifting, calisthenics and sandbag stuff, but technically they could put anything they wanted in there. They could even throw in a table tennis tournament...
Perhaps the title should be changed to fittest person on Earth, at doing tasks which are entertaining for spectators to watch (since that's all they'll put in anyway).
or... fittest person on Earth, at doing the things that came up in year 20XX.
I mean, sure the things they do in the competition are fairly broad, but they're narrow on the scale of things a human can possibly do.

(3 years, 5 months ago)
Steven Anyone going to be watching the Crossfit games?
